Praising Him

Dear Dr. Solomon

My driving is unsafe. Yesterday I rear-ended a UPS van. The problem is that I listen to National Public Radio (NPR) and all the news about Obama. When I hear those stories I just can’t stop myself from raising my hands and shouting, “Hallelujah! Praise him!” It’s getting worse. What should I do?

Praising Him

Dear Praising Him,

The Obama presidency is truly a religious experience for some people. Unfortunately, it is a false religion. Those who reject the kingship of God often place their faith and hope in the government of man, especially as expressed in the political power of the state. This is why ancient cultures deified their rulers, and why modern ones still do, as demonstrated by Stalin, Hitler, Kim Jong II, and some of the enthusiasm over Mr. Obama. This always turns out badly. Remember that Mr. Obama serves under the sovereignty of Christ not in place of Him. Turn off the car radio and spend the time praying that Mr. Obama will faithfully fulfill his stewardship. Your driving will improve and so will your theology.
